Archaeologists Find Old Coins in Syria
(DAMASCUS, Syria, AP) Hundreds of silver coins dating to the seventh century have been unearthed in Palmyra, a town known for its Roman-era ruins.
A Syrian-Polish archaeological team discovered the 700 coins, each one less than 0.04 inches thick, stuck together in one lump.
The coins had pictures on them of Persian kings who had reigned before the Arab conquest in the seventh century.
