王子复仇记14—狼与狐狸-3

The next day, the wolf and the fox went out together. The wolf was very tired and he was limping. He said, "Red Fox, find me something to eat, or I will eat you."

The fox replied, "I know a man. He has plenty of salted meat in a tub in his cellar. I can fetch some of that."

"No," said the wolf, "let me go with you this time. You can help me if I can't run away fast enough."

"You may come if you want," replied the fox.

Finally they reached the cellar safely through a hole. There was lots of meat. The wolf made himself quite at home, and said, "There will be time to run if I hear any sound."

The fox enjoyed himself, but he kept looking round now and then. He often ran to the hole and said to himself, "Is the hole large enough for my body?"

"Dear fox," said the wolf, "why are you running about and jumping here and there so often?"

"We must run away if anyone comes," replied the cunning animal, "so you had better not eat too much."

The wolf said, "I'm not leaving here till the tub is empty."

At last the farmer heard the noise as the fox was jumping about in the cellar.

When he came in, the fox ran away through the hole. The wolf tried to follow him, but he couldn't slip through the hole because he was very full. At once the farmer killed the wolf with a club. The fox ran to his home in the forest. He was glad that he was at last free of the wolf.

隔天，狼和狐狸一起出去。狼很累而且又跛着脚。他说：『红狐狸，去找东西来给我吃，不然我就吃了你。』

狐狸回答说：『我知道有个人。他在地窖的桶子里放了很多腌肉。我可以去为你拿一些回来。』

狼说：『不，这次让我跟你一起去。如果我逃得不够快，你可以帮助我。』

狐狸说：『你想来的话就来。』

最后，他们穿过一个洞安全到达地窖。那儿有很多肉。狼一点也不拘束，他说：『如果我听到声音，还会有时间逃走。』

狐狸享受着腌肉，却也不时注意四周。他不时跑到洞边，心里在想：『这个洞对我的身体来说是否够大？』

狼说：『亲爱的狐狸，你为什幺不时跑来跑去，跳来跳去呢？』

狡猾的狐狸说：『如果有人来了，我们必须逃跑。所以你最好不要吃太多。』

狼却说：『桶里的东西不吃完，我是不会离开这里的。』

最后因为狐狸在地窖里跳来跳去，农夫听到有声音。

当他进来时，狐狸穿过洞逃走了。狼试图跟在他后面，但是他却穿不过去，因为他吃太饱了。农夫马上用棍棒把他打死了。狐狸跑回森林的家里。他很高兴，因为他终于摆脱狼了。
