王子复仇记—小骗子华勒-1

Once there was a little boy. He was five years old. He always told lies. People called him Whopper because "a whopper" is a big lie.

One day Whopper had a blue mark on his face. He was on his way home when suddenly he met his friend. His name was George. He was three years older than Whopper.

"Hello, Whopper," he said. "You have a blue mark on your face. Where did you get it?"

Whopper answered, "I  had a fight with Bob Brown. First I hit him, and then he hit me, and then I hit him. At last I knocked him down."

"Did you fight with Bob Brown? Bob's mother doesn't like quarrels. She will be sad when I tell her about it," said George.

When Whopper heard George's words, he said nothing and put his right hand on his blue mark.

After a while he began to talk to George, "Oh! I only pushed him. When I pushed him, I stumbled and fell down on a stone. Then I got a blue mark on my face. Bob didn't fight with me. I told you a lie. Forgive me!"

"Oh, I see! You told me a lie," said George. "Don't tell me lies again. You have a bad habit. No one will believe you because you always tell lies."

Whopper kicked a pebble on the road with his toe and said, "I won't tell lies anymore. But I sometimes forget."

Whopper went on his way home. He said to himself, "I have a bad habit. Making up big stories isn't good. I promised George that I would not tell lies anymore. I will never tell lies again."

从前，有一个五岁的小男孩，他老是说谎，大家就称他为小骗子华勃。因为『华勃』就是大谎言的意思。

有一天华勃的脸上有一块乌青。当他走在回家的路上时，忽然碰到他的朋友。这个朋友名叫乔治，比华勃大三岁。

乔治说：『嗨，华勃，你脸上有一块乌青，是哪儿弄来的？』

华勃回答说：『我和鲍伯‧布朗打了一架。起先我打他，他就打我。我又打了他，最后我把他打倒了。』

乔治说：『你和鲍伯‧布朗打架是吗？鲍伯的妈妈不喜欢争吵之类的事。如果我把这件事告诉她的话，她一定会很难过的。』

华勃听了乔治的话后，他一语不发，并把右手放在他的乌青上面。

过了一会儿，他开始对乔治说：『哦！我只是推了他一下而已。当我推他时，自己绊倒了，就跌在一块石头上，所以脸上才瘀青了一块。鲍伯并没有和我打架。我说了谎，请原谅我！』

乔治说道：『哦，我明白了！你对我说谎。别再对我说谎了。你有个很不好的习惯。因为你老是说谎，没有人会相信你的话的。』

华勃用脚趾踢了路上的一块小石头说：『我以后不会再说谎了，但有时候我还是会忘掉。』

华勃又继续往家走。他自言自语道：『我有个坏习惯。撒谎是不对的。我已经答应乔治以后再也不会说谎了，我再也不要说谎了。』
