狐狸和山羊

One day a fox happened to fall into a deep well. He tried in every way to get out, but he couldn't. At last he began to think that he would die there.

　　While he was thinking how he could get out again, a thirsty goat came along and looked down into the well. He soon saw the fox at the bottom of it.

　　"Hello," said the goat. "What are you doing? Is that water good?"

　　"This is the best water I've ever tasted," answered the fox. "It is cool, and clear, and delicious. Come down and try it yourself."

　　"I will," said the goat, "for I am nearly dead with thirst."

　　So he jumped down, and drank as much water as he wanted. "Oh, how delicious!" he cried."Yes," said the fox, "and now that you have finished drinking, how do you expect to get out of this well?"

　　"Oh, I don't know," answered the goat. "How do you expect to get out?"

　　"That is what I was thinking about," said the fox, "and I have just thought of a good idea. If you put your forefeet high up on the wall, I will climb up your back and get out. Once I get out, I can help you out, too."

　　"Very good idea! That's a wonderful plan. I am sorry I don't have as clear a head as you," said the goat.

　　He put his forefeet on the wall and the fox easily climbed out and started to go away.

　　"Wait a moment," called the goat. "Please don't forget to help me out."

　　"You foolish fellow!" said the fox. "Why didn't you think of how to get out before you jumped in? Look before you leap next time."

　　After he spoke, the fox ran away.

　　有一天，一只狐狸碰巧掉进一口深井里。他试了各种方法想爬出来，但就是办不到。最后他开始觉得他要死在那里了。
　　当他又在想怎么样才能出去的时候，一只口渴的山羊来了，并且朝井里往下望去。他很快就看到井底的那只狐狸。

　　『哈啰，』山羊说：『你在做什么？水好喝吗？』
　　『这是我所尝过最好喝的水，』狐狸回答说。『它又凉又清又可口。下来自己试试看。』

　　『好的，』山羊说，『因为我几乎快渴死了。』
　　于是他就跳下去，把井水喝个够。『哦，真是可口啊！』他叫道。『是的，』狐狸说，『现在你喝完了水，你打算怎么爬出这口井呢？』

　　山羊回答说。『哦，我不知道，你打算怎么出去呢？』
　　『我刚才就是在想这个问题，』狐狸说，『而我现在已经想到了一个好主意。如果你把前脚高高搭在墙上，我就可以爬上你的背出去。我一出去后就也能把你救出去。』

　　山羊说：『非常好的主意！那是一个很棒的计划。我很抱歉我头脑没有你清楚。』
　　他把两只前脚搭在墙上，狐狸轻易地就爬了出去，并开始要离去了。

　　『等一下，』山羊叫道。『请别忘记要救我出去。』
　　『你这个笨家伙！』狐狸说。『你跳进去之前，为什么没想到要怎么出来呢？下次要三思而后行。』

　　说完后，狐狸就跑开了。
