Cowards die many times before their deaths; the valiant never taste of death but once.
Unlike a brave man, a coward often imagines he is on the point of death when he is not. He, therefore, frequently experiences the fear of dying. A brave man, however, only dies once because he never worries about dying. As Shakespeare wrote in Julius Caesar, “Cowards die many times before their deaths; the valiant never taste of death but once.”
