Dear Richard,
Long time no see. I hope all is well with you. I understand Harry recently asked you to lend him some money but you turned him down. I know, because he wrote me and asked to borrow the money from me. I lent it to him, but with some misgivings because it was a pretty large sum. I’ll admit his promise of an interest payment of $2,500 helped persuade me.
He said you told him you couldn’t afford to lend him the money, but he didn’t seem convinced. I have to say I find it hard to believe, too, because I know you are as well off as I am, if not more so. But perhaps you had some other reason for not wanting to lend him anything. If you have reason to believe I may not get my money back, by all means let me know.
Sincerely,
Timothy White
