“If I knew I had to be on a diet seven days a week, I’d go nuts,” says Michelle Munoz, a Chicago realtor, “but five days I can handle.”
Michelle was determined to lose the 30 pounds she had put on over the course of a long winter. Monday through Friday she cut calories drastically by sticking to dressing-free salads, lean meats and steamed vegetables, and by putting the nix on desserts altogether. Come Saturday and Sunday, however, she allowed herself whatever her stomach desired, from take-out pizza to double-dip Oreos.
“This way I don’t feel deprived,” Michelle says. “The funny thing is, I really can’t eat that much junk after five days of not eating it... but I still get to have anything I want.”
Michelle lost the last of the 30 pounds months ago, but she occasionally resumes her weekday/weekend routine whenever she finds she’s put on a few pounds. This technique doesn’t work for everyone — some people manage to regain a week’s worth of weight loss over a weekend — but it may very well work for you.
